Travels to Mexico.

Our trip was first developed by Richard Anderson professor of cultural anthropology in the Liberal Arts Department of the Kansas City Art Institute and Carolyn Kallenborn, now Assistant Professor in Design Studies at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Carolyn and Richard have worked with the artists in Oaxaca to develop a course where students learn with their mind, their hands and by being immersed in the culture.

Our Ad:

Together we have taken more than 50 people over 5 years - (with one year off becasuse of political conflicts in Oaxaca.) Each time the trip is slightly different but the on thing that has stayed the same is that the class receives very enthusiastic reviews from participants. It has been a wonderful, life-changing experience for both of us as well.

We spend our time learning about Mexican art and culture through on-site lectures, workshops with traditional artists, staying in a small village, and sharing meals with families in their homes. We learn techniques, skills, and ours senses are filled with the sounds, smells and visual intesity of this colorful culture. Most importantly, we make connections to the people we work with, in a way that is very different than a tourist passing through. Our goal is to create understanding, appreciation and personal connections to this fascinating culture
