Community Project: Remembrance and Celebration
This project was inspired by altar making traditions in Mexico for Day of the Dead but community and personal altars of remembrance are created all over the world. We invited individuals, artists, students, friends, family, churches, hospice group and others to take part in a community exhibition. We were amazed at the level of interest in this project, thrilled by the number of people who wanted to participate, and deeply touched by how personal the work became for so many people. read more

School of Human Ecology

For the School of Human Ecology’s Day of the Dead celebration, a collaborative mural was made in honor of Helen Louise Allen in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of our Textile Collection, which she founded. We created a composition and divided it into 12 sections. Each section was given to individuals who had personal connections to the textile collection. Each artist recreated their part of the image on a larger scale, used materials and techniques of their choice.
